New Flyer Recognized for Outstanding Contributions in Immigrant Employment

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada − June 16, 2008
(TSX:NFI.UN) New Flyer Industries Inc. (“New Flyer”), the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit vehicles in Canada and the United States, has been recognized for its outstanding contributions to the advancement and integration of new Canadian youth within the Manitoba workforce. At a ceremony in Winnipeg on June 12, 2008 celebrating excellence in workplace integration, New Flyer was presented an award by the Employment Solutions for Immigrant Youth (ESIY) for its employment initiatives.
“With the current challenges we face in availability of qualified employees, it is critical that we embrace newcomers to Manitoba and allow them to demonstrate their skill sets,” said Janice Harper, Director of Human Resources at New Flyer. “These talented young people bring different experience and perspective that can enrich our overall employee base. In addition, this initiative reinforces our commitment to sustainability by allowing us to contribute to our local communities.”
The four-year-old ESIY provides preparedness training for immigrants under 30 years of age who are planning to enter the Manitoba workforce. Eighty-eight percent of the 250 people who participate in the ESIY program annually find work with the assistance of the program.
Since 2004, New Flyer has successfully integrated 50 new Canadians into its Winnipeg-based workforce, providing internship, permanent or term opportunities for new immigrants to pursue careers in their chosen fields. Placements have occurred in engineering, human resources, sales and marketing and finance. New Flyer has provided training and assistance through work experience and internship opportunities enabling immigrant youth to better understand the Manitoba workplace and career opportunities.
