New Flyer Delivers Vehicles to Assist Metro Transit in Aftermath of Bridge Collapse

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada − May 1, 2008 − (TSX:NFI.UN) New Flyer of America Inc., a subsidiary of New Flyer Industries Inc. (“New Flyer”), the leading manufacturer of heavy-duty transit vehicles in Canada and the United States, has delivered 15 (30 equivalent units) new 60-foot diesel buses to Metro Transit in Minneapolis, MN (Metro) to assist Metro in addressing ridership issues in the aftermath of the I-35W bridge collapse in August 2007.

While typical procurements can take over a year, New Flyer and Metro were able to complete the process in just six months. In a letter from Brian Lamb, General Manager at Metro Transit, in October 2007, Mr. Lamb said that New Flyer’s assistance will have a significant impact.

“The accelerated building schedule means that the buses will enter service at a time when our ridership – especially in the north metro – is growing,” said Mr. Lamb. “We need the extra capacity that the New Flyer articulated buses afford us as we adjust schedules and add service to meet growing demand and altered commuting patterns.”

New Flyer operates two production facilities in Minnesota; one in Crookston where the Metro buses were completed on an accelerated schedule, and one just north of Minneapolis St. Cloud. Buses that were ordered in October 2007 were in production by January 4, 2008 with the last bus being delivered to Metro in April.

New Flyer President and CEO, John Marinucci, said Metro is taking on a leadership role as the community reorganizes and rebuilds.

“Metro responded quickly to this tragedy and found solutions for the thousands of people who used that route every day,” said Mr. Marinucci. “New Flyer and its over 800 employees in Minnesota are very happy to be a part of those solutions and are proud to have played an active role in helping our community in its time of need.”

Mr. Lamb offered his appreciation to New Flyer and its Minnesotan employees, “Please pass on my personal thanks to your staff and to the people in the plant who build the buses,” said Mr. Lamb, “It is nice to know that in an emergency we can count on our friends and business partners at New Flyer of America.”
